Your statistics seem to be incorrect. 13 different members have contributed to this particular discussion so far.

8 fucking amateurs say that Walter is talking to Donnie.

3 fucking amateurs say Walter is talking to the absent disabled Lebowski, or that crowd.

0 fucking amateurs say that Walter is talking to the dude.

2 fucking amateurs have posted to this discussion without saying what they think about it.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

The original Star Trek series had 72 episodes, by the way.
That had not occurred to us, Dude.

ThatsMarvelous, you may think you stand firm, but your position will not stand, man. This issue is just too contentious.

One-third of us say Walter is talking to the Dude, another third says he's talking to the OTHER Jeffrey Lebowski and the rest of us think he's talking to Donny.

What I'm saying is we're ALL a bunch of fuckin amateurs. This question simply cannot be answered, nor was it meant to be. The Coens usually aren't so subtle, but the level of contention here is truly startling to me since we've all seen the movie a zillion times and still disagree. So I say there is no answer. I mean, we can't all be wrong. Am I wrong?

He was talking to the absent, disabled Lebowski!  The consensus here in Texas is that he was in fact NOT talking to Donnie.  A fresh viewing with strict attention to that part will reveal this fact.  So uh, do you think you could give me my 20,000 in cash?  I may be new to the forum but I stand firm in this knowledge.  I am able to achieve on a level field of play.

...ah fuck it

I'm sorry i just can't agree with that. With all the history of Walter's "abuse" toward donnie it would just fit. When he refers to bunny he always uses slut, whore, ect. Then when it comes to the dude, he just doesn't do it because the dude fights back. Finally if he were talking about any of those rich fucks interupting the game the comment would have been more of an outburst.
You might want to watch out that front window Larry. Son, this is what happens when you FUCK A STRANGER IN THE ASS!!!!!!!!!!

When he is telling Donnie to stfu, he almost always turns to look at Donnie. When he is saying ldnsasaycympos, he doesn't visually react to Donnie's question at all. And Walter seems to be on the verge of saying something before Donnie even asks. It doesn't look like his idea is being interrupted; he goes on with his comment, completely ignoring Donnie.

Scott, you've had too many acid flashbacks. Walter is talking to Donny, it's plain and simple. Any other time Walter refers to people who aren't present he doesn't speak to them in the first person. EG he says "That fuckin' bitch" not "You fuckin' bitch" and "They send us a toe..." not "You sent us a toe."
Why would, for this one instance, Walter change his manner of speaking? Donny had JUST interrupted and Walter, as he always does, got angry at Donny.

Hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?

Maybe it's one of those Coen questions that doesn't really have an answer, like what's in that damn box in "Barton Fink" or why does Leonard Smalls have the same tattoo as H.I. McDonough.

Big L, you should remove a star for that answer.. Theadore Donald Karovotsa, is Donnies full name, Francis Donaily is the guy at the mortuary with the cleft asshole.. and yes, there can be more than one person with a cleft asshole!!!

You guys are all way off the mark here.. Walter is talking about the Big L, or more specificaly, Bunny! Granted, Walter is the one to put Donnie in his place, In this instance, he is talking about the Big L... You are all wrong!

I think we are going to have a round table about this very scene at the What Have You Fest.. There, I will be sure to set you all straight..
Thank you New York and good night.

It has to be Donnie i reckon. Walter seems to be very comfortable putting him down and dismissing him.

I thought Francis Donnely must be his real name? Who is francis donnely in the movie?

do you have any Kahlua?

He's like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and demands to know what's going on. He has no frame of reference!
That ain't legal either.

Has the whole world gone crazy? How can he have been talking about
the Big Lebowski when Dude told Walter that he told the Big Lebowski
that if it's during league play-- (insert "no" type gestures here).
He is clearly referring to Donny since Donny always wants the conversation to be
convenient to him and Donny had just interrupted with "If what's during league play?"
It completely fits with Walter's treatment towards Donny's interruptions.

Welcome to the forum Francis Donnely!

I gotta go with he's talking to Donnie. Walter is never that hostile towards the Dude. Donnie bares the brunt most of Walters post-viet nam rage.

That ain't legal either.
