Lebowski Fest is a traveling festival that celebrates all things related to the Coen Brothers’ cult classic, The Big Lebowski. The event takes place in various cities and includes two nights, The Movie Party and the Bowling Party. The Movie Party typically includes a band and a screening of the film and the Bowling Party includes a costume contest, trivia contests and unlimited bowling. White Russians are the ceremonial beverage of choice and fans of all ages and walks of life get together for this event where the focus is the fans, also known as “Achievers” – and proud we are of all of them.
The first Lebowski Fest was held in Louisville, Kentucky in October 2002 and to date the fest has been held in over 30 cities including Louisville, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Austin, Chicago, Milwaukee and even overseas in London and Edinburgh. Many actors have made appearances at Lebowski Fest including The Dude himself, Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro, Julianne Moore, Peter Stormare and even lesser known actors like Jon Polito (Da Fino), Jim Hoosier (Liam) and Philip Moon (Woo – The Carpet Pisser.)
Lebowski Fest has hosted some far out bands over the years including My Morning Jacket, They Might Be Giants, Kyle Gass Band, Dr. Dog as well as Achiever comedians like Brian Posehn and Rob Riggle. The annual event is held every summer in Louisville, Kentucky. Lebowski Fest has been featured on Nightline, Ace of Cakes and has been written up in everything from SPIN Magazine to the New York Times and Rolling Stone. There is a feature-length documentary about Lebowski Fest, “The Achievers: The Story of Big Lebowski Fans” and a book, “I’m a Lebowski, You’re a Lebowski” – a fan book written by the founders of Lebowski Fest which has been translated into German, Turkish and Italian. There appears to be no end in sight for Lebowski Fest as new Achievers are discovering Lebowski Fest every day. The online community of Achievers is nearly 100,000 and growing steadily. Lebowski Fest is a festival by the fans, for the fans and is not affiliated with the creators of the film. Check here for upcoming Lebowski Fests in your area.
